Hayfever and Allergy

Hayfever (allergic rhinitis) is very common and is caused by allergy to airborne substances such as grass or hay pollens, and is therefore difficult to avoid. Hayfever affects the upper respiratory passages such as nose, throat, sinus and eyes. Types of hay fever treatment include Antihistamine tablets or nasal sprays (effective at treating itching, sneezing and watery eyes) eg clarityn, Steroid nasal sprays (effective at preventing and relieving nasal (nose) symptoms, including sneezing and congestion) eg beconase allergy, and Eye drops (ease itching and swelling) eg opticrom. Nasal decongestants such as xylometazolone (otrivine) may also be very effective in short term use. Skin allergies can be treated with a range of antihistamine and anti pruritic (anti itch) creams such as anthisan and eurax cream. Piriton tablets are also very effective in the tretament of skin allergies.
